• In India and NYC, she wore it daily. It was round faced, gold with a distinctive flat gold band. She wore it for many years. The band looked like it had no links at all, which made it unique. What kind of watch was this? Does anyone know?

  • Two online references to Jaeger LeCoultre watches may be a clue. The first is this, from a ghoulish account of Diana's death:
"All that remained of her personal effects ? Diana?s black jacket, her black size 9 Versace high-heeled shoes, her purse, her Jaeger-leCoultre gold watch with white stones, her bracelet with six rows of pearls and a dragon-shaped clasp, a black size 30 Ralph Lauren women?s belt, a single gold earring ? were placed in a plastic bag stored in the basement." The second is from TheWorldAndI.com:

"Other important pieces in the shop's current inventory include . . . the smallest watch in the world, identical to the watch worn by Queen Elizabeth II at her coronation. Featuring a quarter-inch face, this Jaeger-LeCoultre watch is cast in a solid block of platinum and attached to a diamond and platinum band.
"The LeCoultre piece originally surfaced through one of Mendelson's buyers in London, who found it in a parcel of low-value items offered at a flea market auction. . . . If the movement alone were duplicated today, it would cost nearly as much as the vintage watch. I understand Princess Diana owns a similar watch in gold." The Enduring Beauty of Vintage Jewelry
